At Sox and Freeman Tree Experts we are dedicated to science based arboriculture. Our Plant Health Care program strives to minimize problems with insects, mites and diseases by assessing the needs of the plants in the landscape so they are better able to defend themselves. For example, healthy plants are generally able to produce compounds that prevent extensive insect and mite feeding, or they smother insects once inside tissues. However, when plants in landscapes are stressed as a result of improper cultural practices such as watering, fertilization, mulching, and pruning the plants defense system is compromised. This opens the plant up to attack by opportunistic insects, primarily wood-boring beetles or caterpillars, and disease organisms.

Our approach is to deal with pests – including insects, mites and diseases – using a single cultural, physical (mechanical), chemical or biological management strategy, or a combination of strategies that focus on the health of the plant.
